Michigan Earned Sick Time Act: New Bills Introduced Ahead of February Launch
January 14, 2025 -- Late last week, House Bill 4002 and Senate Bill 15 regarding the new Michigan Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA), which is scheduled to take effect on February 21, 2025, were introduced in Lansing.
The Bills are intended to make changes to the ESTA prior to its effective date. Importantly, the Bills are very different. HB 4002 is currently more beneficial to business (click here for a comparison of the two Bills). There is hope that we can attain additional changes; especially with respect to employers with employees covered by an existing collective bargaining agreement.
A second State House hearing is scheduled for this Thursday, January 16th. If you are interested in making your voice heard, contact your local State Representative or Senator and share your concerns as to the impact of the ESTA upon your business.
