Creating a Safer Site

Ergonomics remains a costly issue for businesses with associated injuries accounting for one-third of days-away-from-work cases. Employees suffering from ergonomics-related injuries required more time off the job than those with other types of workplace injuries and illnesses (a median of 11 days versus 8 days).

In 2022, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that Construction industry employers recorded a total of 74,520 non-fatal work-related injures requiring days away in 2020 (BLS). Cause of injury included the following:
  • Contact with object, equipment: 22,470
  • Falls, slips, trips: 21,510
  • Overexertion and bodily reaction: 18,980
    • 6,310 from overexertion during lifting or lowering
    • 520 from repetitive motion
